can – ը միայն ներկա ժամանակի համար է: Այլ ժամանակների համար օգտագործվում է to be able to

Ես կկարողանամ – I will be able to …

Ես կարողացել եմ – I have been able to ….

Նա ասաց, որ կկարողանա – He said that he would be able to ….

Նա սաց, որ կարողացել է – He said that he had been able to ….

could – կարողանում էի, կարողանում էր

May – միայն ներկա ժամանակով է գործածվում: Այլ ժամանակների համար օգտագործվում է to be allowed to do something

You may go out. Կարող ես դուրս գնալ:

I was allowed to go out. Ինձ թույլատրեցին դուրս գնալ:

You will be allowed to go out. Քեզ կթույլատրեն դուրս գնալ:

He said that I would be allowed to go out, Նա սաց, որ ինձ կթույլատրեն դուրս գնալ:

He said that he had been allowed to go out. Նա սաց, որ իրեն թույլատրել են դուրս գնալ:

might – կարող է գործածվել may-ի անցյալ միայն անուղղակի խոսքում:

He said: “You may go out.” He said that I might go out.

Մնացած դեպքերում might ձևը արտահայտում է թեթև հնարավորություն:

He might be at home now. Հնարավոր է նա տանն է հիմա:

Must – միայն ներկա ժամանակով է գործածվում: Մնացած ժամանակների համար օգտագործվում է «have to» ձևը:

I must do this work. Ես պետք է անեմ այս աշխատանքը:

I had to do that work. Ես պետք է անեի այդ աշխատանքը: Կամ՝ ես ստիպված էի անել այդ աշխատանքը:

I will have to do … Ես ստիպված կլինեմ …
